The complete story of Eternal Ink begins with Terry Welker. Often called "Tramp" by his friends, Terry is a self-taught artist who works in the traditional style. Terry began tattooing in 1976.

After tattooing for several years, Terry purchased a small tattoo shop in Ypsilanti, Michigan. In 1982, he relocated the shop to Livonia, Michigan. The shop was named Eternal Tattoos. With the growing success of this first studio, he soon expanded and established a chain of five tattoo studios in the downtown Detroit, Michigan area. To open a new shop, Terry would tattoo at the new location while building the shop and finding artists for the studio. Terry has always been very selective about the talented artists who work in his studios. All five Eternal Tattoos shops are recognized as premier tattoo studios producing the finest tattoo art. Many renowned artists have started their careers at Eternal Tattoos, including Jay Wheeler, Tom Renshaw, Marshall Bennett, and Bob Tyrell.
